OUTREACH MINISTRIES

Gateway Children’s Services:  Ascension is working weekly with the Gateway children on building life skills, which includes an on-going need of the following items for the Gateway Teens: socks, undershirts (large and extra large), twin sheets, towels, pencils, drawing pads, journals.  PG-13 movies, games, puzzles, puzzle books, soap, shampoo, lotion,  hair elastics, and nail polish and remover.

M&M Food Pantry: They always need food, donations, and substitute workers.  They especially need baby food, canned fruit, dried beans, Spaghetti O’s, tuna fish, and tuna helper dinners and powdered milk.  Please continue to bring your offerings for the plate and our basket

MAJOR FEASTS FOR OCTOBER

ST. LUKE (18 October) The early Church's position was that St.  Luke wrote the third synoptic Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. He accompanied St.  Paul on some of his missionary journeys (see in Acts where he wrote `we' instead of `he' in the narrative). He was a physician, and is therefore invoked for healing ministries.

ST. JAMES OF JERUSALEM (24 October, transferred) James was the first bishop of Jerusalem. He is called the brother of Jesus, but may have been a cousin. Family ties were so close at that time that cousins were called brother and sister.

STS. SIMON AND JUDE (28 October) Simon and Jude, also called Thaddeus, were apostles. Simon carried the light to Egypt and Persia, where he was joined by Jude. They were martyred together.

VIGIL OF ALL SAINTS (31 October) This day, called Halloween (from All Hallows Eve), has come to be a day to dress up in costumes and ask for treats. These traditions arose from Celtic traditions, and were to commemorate the beginning of winter. They have nothing to do with the holy day.
