As a busy summer draws to a close, a busier fall lies before us! I hope that you all had a good summer, with time to relax and enjoy time with family and friends and to engage in both fun and meaningful activities. Many thanks to all whose ministries are year-round: Altar Guild, Acolytes, Lectors, Chalicers, Ushers, Music leaders, Adult Sunday school, Outreach, Buildings and Grounds, Officiants for Morning Prayer, Coffee hour hosts and hostesses, etc. Also, many thanks for all of your prayers for Gordon’s surgery and future treatments. This summer has not been without its interesting and challenging moments.

During July and August, our parish was very active with our Lemonade Retreat for the teens at Gateway Children’s Services which culminated in the youth’s musical performance conducted by Norm Stoddard and their sharing stories about the masks that they made. We are continually blessed with this wonderful outreach program. We partnered with the First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church, and Queen Street Christian Fellowship Church for Vacation Bible School. We had approximately 40 children in attendance. Everyone involved had a fun-filled time. After a successful Vestry dinner to kick off the summer, we began our 3rd Friday of the month Game Night with food, fellowship, and of course, board and card games. Everyone involved wanted to continue this event through the fall. So, come and join us. We also began organizing for our Annual Christmas Bazaar. Even if you feel lacking in creativity, we have many talented crafters who would be willing to teach you their secrets. So, please join these “Christmas elves” after coffee hour in the undercroft.

Now, as a new season and program year begins, there are many exciting ministries to which you may want to offer your time and talents. Fall represents a time of new opportunities and new commitments. This is the perfect opportunity to think prayerfully about the ways in which your time and talents can be offered in new ways to help the health and growth of the Church you love. All our ministries are always in need of new people. If you are interested in a particular ministry, talk with me or someone already involved in that ministry.

Prayer of Self Dedication- Our gift of time

Almighty and eternal God, so draw our hearts to you, so guide our minds, so fill our imaginations, so control our wills, that we may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated to you; and then use us, we pray, as you will, and always to your glory and the welfare of your people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen (paraphrased from The Book of Common Prayer, p 832)

A Prayer for the Wise use of Talents

Almighty God, you have blessed each of us with unique gifts, and have called us into specific occupations, relationships, and activities using those gifts. Enable us to use our talents to witness to our faith in you and to communicate your love to the people we meet each day. Empower us to be ministers of reconciliation, love, hope, and justice. Keep us steadfast in our commitment to serve actively in your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen (Occasional Services, Augsburg, 1982, p. 148)

In Christ's love,
