VESTRY

Treasurer’s report for June:

Income: $5,516

Expenses: $9,458

Check book balance of $4,954 minus pass-through and memorial fund= $3,184.

Vestry voted unanimously to approve quit claim deed for a part of the property which is used by building next door for emergency steps near back of driveway. We sent resolution to Diocesan office. We are looking into obtaining a church credit card. We discussed work days to “spring clean.” First one will be on Aug. 18, following “Casual Sunday” and accompanied by a cook-out. We have also scheduled worship and picnic on Sept. 22 at Easy Walker Park. Christmas bazaar preparations are progressing.  Mary is handling sign-ups for Kroger Cares program.  Sr. Warden’s Report: Already discussed. Jr. Warden’s Report: Fire extinguishers were serviced. We are getting quotes on the costs to repair gutters, fix and seal windows, and paint remainder of building outside. Costs will be presented to vestry and will most likely have to come out endowments. Stewardship/ Finance/ Publicity: Audit tentatively scheduled for July. Worship/ Fellowship/Hospitality: Eucharistic visitors and acolyte training on-going. Christian Formation: Stephen McGuire is continuing the Five Marks of Mission with adult Sunday school. Outreach: Lemonade retreat will be week of July 4th.  Next meeting: Sunday, July 7, 2013 after worship.

PRIEST'S VACATION

Cindy+ will be on vacation from July 9 - July 30.  Because of this, we are combining the July and August newsletters. If you need the services of a priest, notify Mary Ratliff. On July 14 and July 28, Matthew Wilson and Sallie Razor will be officiating Morning Prayer, respectively. On July 21, Rev. Joe Pennington will be preaching and celebrating.

BISHOP'S VISIT

The Rt. Rev. Douglas Hahn, Bishop of Lexington, will be making his Episcopal visit to our parish on September 8.  He will officiate at the service and will confirm Jennifer Walker and Julia Waller. We will have a potluck reception afterwards.

LEMONADE RETREAT

Lemonade Retreat for the teens from Gateway Children’s Services will be on July 1, 2, 3, 5 (9am-1pm).

DAUGHTERS OF THE KING

The Daughters of the King will hold their monthly meeting on June 2, after church. All Daughters and anyone interested in finding out more about the order are welcome to attend. Please note that dues are due 1 September.

2013 CHRISTMAS BAZAAR ALERT!!!

Our Christmas bazaar will be held on Saturday, November 9 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. We would like people to make home-made crafts and Christmas crafts, such as wreaths, ornaments, scarves and kitchen towels, which sold well last year. There will be no pre-sale. There will be a sign up sheet in the parish hall. Watch for announcements for organizational meetings in the future.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES

Gateway Children’s Services:  Ascension is working weekly with the Gateway children on building life skills, which includes the children preparing dinner once a month after the Wednesday Evening service. There is always an on-going need of the following items for the Gateway Teens: socks, undershirts (large and extra large), twin sheets, towels, pencils, drawing pads, journals. PG-13 movies, games, puzzles, puzzle books, soap, shampoo, lotion, and hair elastics

M&M Food Pantry: They always need food, donations, and substitute workers. They especially need baby food, canned fruit, dried beans, Spaghetti O’s, tuna fish, and tuna helper dinners and powdered milk.  Please continue to bring your offerings for the plate and our basket.

Other: The American Cancer Society needs volunteers to drive cancer patients in our community to and from their treatment appointments. Or you can become a volunteer with St. Claire Hospice. See Sally Purvis.
