Gateway Children’s Services:  Ascension is working weekly with the Gateway children on building life skills, which includes the children preparing dinner once a month after the Wednesday Evening service.  There is always an on-going need of the following items for the Gateway Teens: socks, undershirts (large and extra large), twin sheets, towels, pencils, drawing pads, journals. PG-13 movies, games, puzzles, puzzle books, soap, shampoo, lotion, and hair elastics.

M&M Food Pantry: They always need food, donations, and substitute workers. They especially need baby food, canned fruit, dried beans, Spaghetti O’s, tuna fish, and tuna helper dinners and powdered milk. Please continue to bring your offerings for the plate and our basket.

Other: The American Cancer Society needs volunteers to drive cancer patients in our community to and from their treatment appointments. Or you can become a volunteer with St. Claire Hospice. See Sally Purvis for details.

ST. THOMAS (21 December) Thomas was the apostle who insisted in seeing the risen Christ before he believed in the Resurrection; however, upon doing so, he made the leap of faith to "my Lord and my God". According to early tradition, He ministered in Parthia and India, where he founded the church at Malabar.  The tradition among Christians in India is that he was martyred near Madras, being speared to death.

CHRISTMAS DAY (25 December) While the precise date of the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, is unknown, in Rome in 336, Dec. 25th was chosen to celebrate the Nativity of Our Lord.

ST. STEPHEN (26 December) Stephen was stoned to death for preaching about the risen Christ. Paul tacitly agreed with the mob's action.

ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST (27 December) Early Christian tradition indicates the Apostle John wrote the fourth Gospel and ministered in Ephesus, possibly wrote Revelations on the penal island of Patmos, and died a natural death around 100 AD.

HOLY INNOCENTS (28 December) This day commemorates the innocent male children under the age of two who were killed by Herod in an attempt to destroy the Messiah.
